Once, more years ago than I care to remember, a dear friend had an orange living room in her tiny house overlooking the Thames in Barnes on the outskirts of London. It was beautiful and soft and not at all overwhelming.
And when I spotted this bold hit of orange at the Designers Guild stand at Maison Objet in Paris this weekend, it just took my breath away. Simple, fresh, seemingly impromptu, it had the playful, experimental feel of an arrangement in an artist's studio. This display of orange flowers and craftsman pottery was shown with the new Barcelona collection, filled with bright, vibrant woodblocky and floral prints.
And note: there's a strong feeling for woodblock prints coming back!
